Eagle Mountain Natural Area (Milton, VT)
This 226-acre natural area offers a wide variety of gently-sloping trails and a spectacular view of the Lake and Champlain Islands from the Hoyt Lookout. Conserved by the Lake Champlain Land Trust in partnership with the town of Milton, Eagle Mountain makes a great winter destination.
Tracy Woods Community Trail (South Hero, VT)
This gentle and scenic trail is a great place to experience the beauty of the Champlain Islands in winter. The Tracy Woods Community Trail was conserved by the Lake Champlain Land Trust and South Hero Land Trust in 2018 and restored in 2019 with the help of numerous volunteers. *Note: The parking lot is not regularly plowed, but snow is generally packed down a day or two after a storm.
Niquette Bay State Park (Colchester, VT)
With over six miles of trails to explore, there is something for everyone at this 550-acre park just 20 minutes from downtown Burlington. The kid-friendly Allen Trail follows a wide former road to the shores of Lake Champlain. Other moderate hikes scale small ridgelines offering gorgeous overlook views of the Green Mountains, Adirondacks, and South Hero. The Lake Champlain Land Trust worked with three landowners to double the size of the Park in 2000.
Rock Point Natural Area (Burlington, VT)
Our newest natural area features mature cedar forests, unique rock formations, and stunning views of Lake Champlain. Thanks to our members and everyone who gave to the Rock Point and Arms Forest Coalition Campaign, the area’s improved trails are now suitable for winter hiking. The Sunset Ridge trail is recommended for experienced winter hikers only.
Split Rock Mountain Wild Forest (Essex and Westport, NY)
If you are looking for a moderate to difficult snowshoe hike with great Lake Champlain views, look no further than Split Rock Mountain. Visitors can enjoy eleven miles of trails leading to a variety of scenic destinations, including the Ore Bed Overlook, Barn Rock, and Lewis Clearing Bay.
